Barry Dean - (Drums)
Barry has been playing drums for over 30 years. He began by practicing on coffee cans, pots and pans and then moved on to the bongos. His first drum set cost $20.00.
Barry was first exposed to Gospel music at a very young age. His mother was a musician in her own right. She was a self-taught pianist and carried Barry with her to choir rehearsals, church services and musicals. Barry began to play drums during the church services and eventually became the head drummer at the Power House COGIC. Barry was known in the Western New York area as having the “fastest foot”. Barry is also a self-taught, skilled musician who continually strives for perfection in his craft.
Barry has played with many recording artists such as Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Twinkie Clark, Timothy Wright and Ronald Winans. He has also played with many of the Western, NY area gospel artists as Divine Nature, Chronicles, Proclaim, Serena Young, The Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar Choir, William Crimm, Chris Horton and the Ensemble of Praise and the University of Rochester Gospel Choir. Barry’s R & B and Jazz involvement includes artist such as Cinnamon, Dita Monique Jackson, Jimmy Highsmith, A Few Bad Apples, the Urban League Gala and Paradigm Shift.
Barry is the featured drummer on Jimmy Highsmith’s first recorded CD.
